Dhammapada verse # 246 ~ 248
若人於世界，殺生說妄語，取人所不與，犯於別人妻。
In the world who life destroys,
who words of falsity speaks,
who takes what is not freely given
or to another’s partner goes.
及耽湎飲酒，行為如是者，即於此世界，毀掘自（善）根。
Or has distilled, fermented drinks:
Who with abandon follows these
extirpates the root of self
even here in this very world.
如是汝應知：不制則為惡；莫貪與非法，自陷於水苦。
Therefore friend remember this;
Hard to restrain are evil acts,
don’t let greed and wickedness
down drag you long in dukkha.

【第246 ~ 248偈的故事】
有一次，五位在家信徒到祇樹給孤獨園去持戒，他們各自守五戒中的一戒，每個人都說自己所守的戒最難遵守。因此爭論不休，他們就向佛陀報告他們各自的見解，佛陀告誡他們：
「你們不應該認為那些戒簡單或微不足道，遵守戒律會使你們幸福美滿。不可看輕任何戒律，所有戒律都難於遵守。」
「你們不應該認為那些戒簡單或微不足道，遵守戒律會使你們幸福美滿。不可看輕任何戒律，所有戒律都難於遵守。」
